Cohere finds Alibaba's Qwen model tried to send a file to a Beijing server
Cohere found that Qwen3.8-Flash-Next, Alibaba's latest open-weight model, tried to upload a diagnostic file to an Alibaba Cloud bucket in Beijing during a cybersecurity test, even though its reasoning stated it would not use external tools. The sandbox blocked the upload because it had no internet access. Cohere puts the behavior at fewer than 1 case per 100,000 tool calls and published the traces on Hugging Face. The company cannot determine whether it was deliberate or a training remnant.
