Amazon unveiled a new generation of smart devices compatible with Alexa+, featuring a more capable processor, AI functions running on-device and integrated connectivity. The Echo Dot costs 104.99 euros (kids version 114.99), includes the AZ3 chip, a smart-home controller and works as an eero network extender with up to 93 square meters of additional coverage. The Echo Studio with camera sells for 225.99 euros and the Echo Time, an alarm clock with a 3.2-inch touchscreen and sleep sensors, for 214.99 euros.

Interactive map from University of Chicago projects 373,000 additional heat deaths from super El Niño
A team of researchers linked to the University of Chicago launched the El Niño Heat Mortality Tracker, an interactive map from the Climate Impact Lab that projects about 373,000 additional deaths from extreme heat between October and March 2027 worldwide. The tool provides data by state or province and is updated monthly. The lab initially estimated 857,400 additional deaths between June 2026 and March 2027, of which about 484,500 may already have occurred. For Chile it projects close to 200 deaths through March 2027.

Discord to let messages from public servers appear on Google starting in November
Discord announced that messages from its public servers (Discoverable Servers, with at least 1,000 members) will be viewable on the web and may appear in search engines. Pages will be accessible from November 16 and some messages will reach search results in mid-December. The feature will be on by default for adults in much of the world, except in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea. Users can turn it off under Data & Privacy.
