Yelp to launch "Check for Me," an AI assistant that calls restaurants by phone
Yelp announced the launch of Check for Me, an artificial intelligence-powered tool that automates phone inquiries to dining establishments. With the feature, users will not have to call to find out availability or the estimated wait time before getting a table without a prior reservation. Users only need to enter the group size and a contact number in the app so the AI agent makes the call to the business and sends the answer to the customer's phone by text message. It will roll out gradually over the coming months to a select group of iPhone users in the United States.

A study published in Nature, with MIT participation, shows that an artificial intelligence improves weather forecasts between 2 and 6 weeks ahead, the interval scientists call the "predictability desert." The method, called Probabilistic Bias Correction (PBC), teaches the AI to identify and correct systematic errors in existing models. Applied to ECMWF models, it improved precipitation forecasts in 98% of the evaluated areas and doubled the predictive skill score of its AI system.

Unitree wants its humanoid robots to learn to improve themselves with AI
