Nisco deploys Huawei-backed AI model in steel production and saves over 100 million yuan a year
Chinese steel group Nisco is applying the Yuanye artificial intelligence system, developed with Huawei and technology partners, with annual cost savings of more than 100 million yuan ($14.93 million). The company has put 25 business intelligent agents and more than 300 AI models into operation, plus over a thousand low-code agents built by frontline workers, to optimize iron and steelmaking, rolling, quality control and business management.

IREN seeks technical profiles for its Badajoz data center
IREN has posted 28 vacancies in Badajoz on LinkedIn, compared with two in Cáceres, for its future data center. Highly specialized technology roles dominate: 24 offers require degrees in engineering, environmental science, architecture or energy. Norway proposes a 4,500 km subsea cable between Europe and Canada to bypass the United States
Norwegian company Bulk is promoting the Leif Erikson project, a fibre-optic subsea cable of more than 4,500 kilometres that would connect southern Norway with Happy Valley-Goose Bay in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and continue overland to Montreal. The investment would exceed 620 million dollars and the goal is to reduce reliance on US infrastructure. The project, which has been trying to move forward for five years, still needs additional funding, a majority partner and approval from European and Canadian authorities.

SICE to install 305 AI video surveillance cameras in Piélagos for 3.4 million euros
The contracting board of the Piélagos City Council gave the highest score to the Madrid-based joint venture SICE Seguridad y Sistemas to install 305 video surveillance cameras, in a contract worth 3,418,687 euros that drew four other technology firms. The cameras use artificial intelligence, night vision and license plate reading. The company must post a 141,268-euro guarantee and the installation deadline is four months from the award, which will go to the full council.

Chernobyl needs at least 500 million euros to repair the steel arch damaged by a Russian drone
A Russian drone struck on February 14, 2025 the New Safe Confinement of Chernobyl, the steel structure covering the reactor of the 1986 accident, completed in 2019 with an expected lifespan of 100 years. The IAEA described the damage as severe and said the structure lost its radioactivity confinement capacity. The G7 has pledged 260 million euros for the repair, which the EBRD estimates at least 500 million.

An AI trained on 600 million words reconstructs 2,000-year-old Greek papyri
The Austrian Academy of Sciences, together with the company Sail Reply and the Mistral laboratory, developed Apollo, the first language model focused on the classical world. Trained on about 600 million words from ancient inscriptions, manuscripts and papyri, the system predicts and completes missing passages in damaged documents more than two millennia old. It will be available to the university community through a free-access chatbot and shows several probabilistic options for the historian to choose from.

Cavada sets goal of building a "technology multinational" from Cantabria within 10 years

DeLorean enters electric flying vehicles with a team in the Airspeeder International Series
The US firm DeLorean is joining a new motorsport competition based on electric propulsion, advanced flight controls and artificial intelligence safety systems. British logistics drone T-150 turns into a drone killer, downing multiple targets with rockets in a single flight
The militarized version of the British Malloy T-150 drone, called TRV-150 and built by Malloy Aeronautics, a BAE Systems subsidiary, downed several kamikaze drones in a US military exercise in late September at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, without landing or reloading between targets.
