RBA deputy governor warns Australian inflation is worse than expected as rate hike bets grow
Andrew Hauser, deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia, warned that the inflation outlook is considerably worse than forecast and that price pressures could prove more persistent. The concern centers on underlying inflation, which is likely to exceed the RBA's projections in the third quarter, and on the risk of inflation expectations becoming unanchored. The implied probability of a 25 basis point hike to 4.85% on November 3 rose from around 20-22% to nearly 50%.
