FDN, IDB Invest and Bancolombia Seal COP 4.4T for 5G Toll Roads: Is Global Project Finance Back in Colombia?
For the first time in Colombian infrastructure history, three multilateral lenders—IDB Invest, the World Bank's IFC, and CAF—simultaneously joined FDN, Bancolombia (NYSE: CIB), JPMorgan (NYSE: JPM), SMBC, and MUFG to seal a COP 4.4 trillion ($1.1B) syndicated financial close for the 5G Magdalena highways.
Structured under Agencia Nacional de Infraestructura (ANI) oversight, the multi-currency club deal allocates COP 2.4 trillion to Troncal del Magdalena 1 (259.6 km) and COP 2.0 trillion to Troncal del Magdalena 2 (272 km). By blending peso, inflation-linked UVR, and U.S. dollar tranches (~COP 235.7B from IDB Invest and ~COP 218.7B from FDN in TM1), lenders mitigated local interest rate risk.
Alongside financial closes on Nueva Malla Vial del Valle del Cauca and Accesos Norte Phase II, this blueprint directly benefits Colombian infrastructure leaders like Corficolombiana (BVC: CORFICOLCF / NYSE: AVAL). Will multilateral co-lending unlock the rest of Colombia's 5G pipeline despite tight fiscal headroom?
